Hi, I'm Marcy

I’m a therapist who believes some of the most meaningful conversations happen when we can settle in, exhale, and be ourselves. My style is warm, direct, practical, and deeply relational. I’ll challenge you when it’s helpful, sit with you when things are hard, and leave plenty of room for humor, honesty, and being human.

My approach

My training is rooted in DBT, but the person in front of me always comes before the model. I draw from DBT, family systems, narrative therapy, attachment work, trauma-informed approaches, and years of experience working with people and families in complicated situations. We’ll use what’s useful, make room for what needs to be talked about, and build something that fits you.

A little about me

I’m an Austin-based therapist and the founder of Back Porch Therapy. Before private practice, my work included public schools and intensive DBT settings, experiences that shaped how comfortable I am sitting with complexity. I’m especially drawn to complex situations—the ones with layers, competing needs, and no obvious answer—and to people who may have tried therapy before but are ready for a new approach.

How I Work

Therapy with me is collaborative, active, and tailored to the person in front of me. We’ll balance practical skills with deeper exploration, making room for both change and understanding along the way.

Beyond the Therapy Room

A Little More About Me

Outside the therapy room, I’m a mom of five, longtime Austinite, gardener, animal lover, and someone who believes strongly in the restorative power of good coffee, being outside, and conversations that run longer than planned.

Home has always been a gathering place for me. I’ve spent years creating spaces where people can pull up a chair, stay awhile, and feel comfortable being themselves. I love old things with stories, plants I probably don’t need, projects that get a little out of hand, and the particular kind of magic that happens when people gather around a table or sit together on a porch.

Back Porch Therapy grew out of a lot of those things. It brings together the work I love with the kind of place I’ve always loved creating—warm, a little eclectic, imperfect, welcoming, and meant to be shared.
